Meet the 2012 Mom Congress Mississippi Delegate
November 7, 2012
Andi Hildenbrand is the 2012 Mom Congress Delegate for Mississippi. She is the wife of Brett Hildenbrand, a dentist, and the mother of three wonderful children: 17-year-old Aaron, 14-year-old Andrew and 11-year-old Adrienne. Andi enjoys spending her time with her family, running and volunteering in her youngest child’s school as a science lab teacher.
What book is currently on your nightstand? One Year Devotional Bible, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and State of Wonder: A Novel by Ann Patchett
One thing that is going great in education in your state: I believe we have just secured adequate level funding for k-12 education for the next fiscal year.
One thing you wish could be improved in education in your state: Many things, but mostly to give all children the most positive and rich education in all subjects. Science is and has been short-changed for many, many years.
Your favorite teacher (and why): My favorite teacher ever was Mrs. Weaver in the fourth grade. She challenged us in all subjects, and she also held us accountable for our actions. She also wrote me an apology one day and for that it showed me her humility and even now as a 45-year-old I respect her for simply being humble.
Secret indulgence: Oh my, I love any kind of good tea, thanks to Starbucks! I also love clothes and anything associated with fashion! And I love to run!
Biggest wish for your kids: To love God, serve God, and be the best human by making a difference everyday in another human’s life!
Most rewarding/challenging stage of parenthood thus far (and why): The most rewarding part of parenthood thus far has been when my children were between the ages of 0-4. All the new experiences and milestones were so huge! Plus, they are so sweet and innocent and loved their parents so much at that age. The most challenging is the teen years, for sure, because now you are not the only influence on your kids. The amount of trouble kids can face is scary—even when blessed with good kids. I still catch myself worrying about the choices they are making, and what choices they are being influenced to make.
Favorite family tradition: We always go to the beach for Thanksgiving. It is a great time to relax before the Christmas Season begins.
Favorite family activities: The Hildenbrands all play tennis competitively and we all like to ski and go to new places.
Favorite weeknight family dinner: My children love to have roast and mashed potatoes, and most recently they love grilled rosemary chicken breast on ciabatta bread with bacon and Gouda cheese, and roasted rosemary potatoes on the side.
