Meet the 2012 Mom Congress New Jersey Delegate
December 19, 2012
Beth Schroeder Buonsante is the 2012 Mom Congress Delegate for New Jersey. She is the mother of 5-year old twins and works full-time as chief of staff to New Jersey State Senator Jim Whelan. Beth has managed various political campaigns, which she credits with preparing her to be a mother of multiples. She serves as Treasurer of the Mullica Township PTA.
What book is currently on your nightstand? The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.
One thing that is going great in education in your state: New Jersey leads the nation in math, writing, Advanced Placement and the high school graduation rate.
One thing you wish could be improved in education in your state: More pre-k programs and universal full-day kindergarten.
Your favorite teacher (and why): I had so many great teachers, but one of my favorites was Mrs. Kristen Lavery who taught me freshman year high school science at Absegami High School in Galloway Twp., NJ. Despite the fact that I considered science to be my worst subject, Mrs. Lavery made it fun and gave me the confidence I needed to succeed.
Secret indulgence: Wii Mario Kart
Your hero: Madeleine Albright, First female U.S. Secretary of State and mother of twins.
Favorite quote: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
Biggest wish for your kids: My biggest wish is that they will always have self-confidence and concern for others.
Most rewarding/challenging stage of parenthood thus far (and why): The most rewarding stage of parenthood so far has been watching my kids use their imagination and simply play. The most challenging stage has been trying to spend quality family time after a long day of school, work, and volunteering.
Favorite family tradition: Walking New Jersey’s famous boardwalks.
