An Update from The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children

Wow - this past year has been amazing for The Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children! We installed 171 interactive whiteboard systems in classrooms across Louisiana, delivered school supplies to over 1,500 children affected by the oil spill, and held a benefit concert headlined by Disney’s Anna Margaret in Alexandria.

To date, we have installed interactive whiteboard technology in 54 different schools across Louisiana. Through this implementation, we have brought twenty-first century learning tools into classrooms, aiding in the education of roughly 5,100 children. Over four years, with the investments in classrooms made to date, we will have positively impacted the education of more than 20,000 children!

On April 20th, eleven lives were lost and the lives of many Louisiana citizens were greatly impacted by the explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. As the severity of the issue surfaced, it was obvious that not only were adults and wildlife impacted, but our children were greatly affected as well.  After the first day of announcing the supply-drive, the outpouring of kindness and generosity was truly amazing. We received donations not only from people, businesses, churches and organizations from across the state of Louisiana, but also from many across our nation who watched the events unfold in the Gulf from afar.  As a result, we were able to deliver over $100,000 in school supplies to over 5,300 students in 16 different schools across coastal Louisiana. To see the look on teachers, parents and students faces when they received their backpacks full of supplies was truly incredible. In this challenge, our state came together in such powerful way to support one another – it really says a lot about the character and kindness of our citizens.

On August 20th, we held a “Back to School All Ages Dance Party & Concert” in Alexandria, LA.  Disney recording artist, Anna Margaret, and other artists performed for a sold out, record crowd at the Rapides Parish Coliseum. All the proceeds from the concert went directly towards installing interactive whiteboards in classrooms for students in coastal Louisiana.

For all of you who have been a part of making a difference in education either with the Foundation or in other ways – Thank You! The impact you are having on children in our State and country is incredible and irreplaceable. Please continue to be a part of making a positive impact on students ….  and helping to create a brighter future for our children!
