Magoo's life is filled with 5 main activities, making friends, cracking me up, crying because he's not currently playing on the Wii, telling me he's hungry, and smelling his Big Ducks. Today's post focuses on the "cracking me up" portion of his life's work. Magoo has got a lot to say and I'd like to share a little of it with you.
Last week we were at the mall and a couple walked past us. After they were about 50 yards away, Magoo looked back towards them wistfully and mused, "I wish they would've looked at us."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because then they probably would have said, ‘Hi! What's your name?!'" He gave a wan smile and shook his head.
"And then we could have made a new friend?"
"Yeah," he sighed.
I sliced an apple for Magoo and accidentally left a few seeds attached. He pulled them out and told me that he would plant them in the back yard. One was cut in half.
"What will happen if you plant that one buddy?" I asked.
He looked at me like I was completely daft and said, "It will grow, like, half a tree, Mom."
Lately we've been playing a lot of cards and when Magoo has a sweet card to play, he grins, purses his lips, raises his eyebrows and slowly says, "Very well," as he lays the card on the pile.
Magoo's Lego Storm Troopers always use good grammar, including adding "LY" to a descriptive word if it's being used as an adverb, as in, "Yes I'll fly in your spaceship with you as long as you promise not to treat me badly."
At his 4-year-old Well Child Visit he made a point of laughing while they gave him his shots so he could say he was braver than me. He'd seen me get a flu shot without crying and the only way to top that was to laugh during his. I think if I'd laughed during mine, he'd have given his shot a roundhouse kick in the face a la Chuck Norris.
When the doctor asked him what animal was painted on the wall, Magoo said it was "prolly a baboon." When asked what it was doing, he said, "It's sitting... Later it will eat." When the doctor asked him what it would eat, Magoo answered, "Bananas and leaves and stuff."
"Then maybe it will write," he said staring at the doctor's hands as he scribbled notes down on Magoo's chart. Comparing the baboon to the doctor. Awesome.
"What do you want most in the world?" the doctor asked. We didn't know at that point whether I was pregnant with a boy or a girl so Magoo said, "If I could have any wish, it would be to have no more sisters." Then he looked at my face and thought better of it. "I was just being silly. What I really want is a dragon... except I already have one... in my pocket."
"Why do you want a dragon, Magoo?"
"Because they blow fire at people." Grin and duck behind Mom.
The doctor declared him to be "well." I concur.
