Our day at the pumpkin patch (complete with gratuitous family photos)
October 5, 2010
Fall is officially here. I know because I have Wicked on my toes instead of Watermelon, there is always a football game blaring from somewhere in the house, my hair is a lot less frizzy and…we now have a family of pumpkins squatting on the front stoop. Saturday was our big outing to the pumpkin farm. And by outing I mean one hour and fifteen minutes (the kids could have stayed all day; Nick burnt out). We packed it all in though. Alex flew down the bouncy slides a few times, ate his first candy apple (after which he said, “Mom, can I get a real lollipop now, one that doesn’t have an apple inside?”) went on a hayride, walked through the fields and examined about two million pumpkins before we picked our winners. Oh, and I took about two million photos. Had I known I was going to snap so many, I would have dressed Nora in a cute outfit (i.e., one that matched and that actually fit her and that didn’t involve hot pink, which, frankly, clashes with my hair) but she pulled it off, I think. Here are some highlights:
It was a cold day that had moments of bright hot sun. We layered and stripped and layered and stripped some more.
Nick and Nora on the farm (random bit of trivia: we almost didn’t name her Nora because of that movie Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist…)
I love a baby in a hat. I just have to get her one that covers her head. Grandma Cindy, Grandma Debbie, are you reading? This girl needs some new duds!
Alex searched and searched for his pumpkin. I wanted to buy ones that were completely round with no blemishes or imperfections but that seemed like the wrong message to send a kid so I oohed and ahhed about all his doozies.
Nora now gets into a standing position all by herself and balances. It is only a matter of time before she takes her first step. D’oh!
She is incredibly proud of herself.
The boys on the hayride.
Nora and I passed the time by taking pictures of ourselves. Probably not a good message either….
This is Nora’s funny face. She will do it on cue and I think it is the funniest thing in the world.
I refused to leave until I got a good shot of the kids together. I tried….
and I tried….
and I tried….
It’s been a while since I’ve posted gratuitous kid shots, so here's one more!
So, have you gotten your pumpkins yet? Do you make a family affair out of it or just grab them from Home Depot like I was tempted to do?! I am so glad we went to the patch of course and very happy to check “pumpkins” off my list. It didn’t feel like fall without them. Now I just need the temps to dip into the 40s and we can have a fire and all will be right in the world. I love fall!
