Babymoons: Do I get to take another one?
October 14, 2009

On my babymoon when I was pregnant with Alex. It was
heavenly...
As I mentioned on Monday, one of the things I want to accomplish before the baby is born (in three months—yipes!) is a little getaway with Nick. I’m anticipating our relationship may take a hit when baby Ruddy number two arrives so we may as well enjoy each other’s company while we still can, right?
When I was seven months pregnant with Alex, Nick and I went to The One and Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas (this was a pre-mortgage, pre-recession splurge--you can see the photos here!) and it was ah-mazing. We swam in the crystal blue ocean, walked on the beach, read books in the sun and ate fantastic food. This time I was thinking more along the lines of a budget-friendly road trip to Vermont. Or a weekend in Montauk. Just something that gets us away from our work and our house and our projects and, yes, our two year old.
But as we get into the home stretch and I think about all the things I want to spend my time and money on (I really want a new glider…part of the reason my back is so bad is the pathetic hand-me-down Ikea reading chair we currently have in Alex’s room), I’m wondering if we should even do it. Would it better to just skip the getaway and put our efforts into fixing up the baby’s room? You don’t get a second baby shower so do you even get a second babymoon? (PS, I hate the term babymoon, but I’m not sure what else to call it!). Let me know what you guys think. And tell me if you have any ideas for where to go… because I’m seriously hoping you’ll say, “of course you should get away!”
