Do you lay them on the changing pad on the icky bathroom floor? Do you keep baby strapped, their little legs dangling in your business while you relieve yourself? Or do you just hold it until you’re home? It’s a choice between lesser evils.

Attention, busy parents who need a breather. Wait, that’s all of you! JumpStart has just come out with two new apps that’ll keep the kiddos busy while actually teaching them something.
With the JumpStart Preschool Magic of Learning Volume 1 iPad app ($2.99, iTunes store), your preschooler joins Frankie the dog in four games -- Bug catcher, Present Search, Matching Duckies, and Barnyard Fun -- designed to teach math, pre-reading, and critical thinking skills. Bonus: After mastering each game, your child will earn secret codes that unlock prizes at www.jumpstart.com. The second app, JumpStart Punk Punk Blitz, is totally free and will be available soon on both iPad and iPhone. It includes three memory-testing games -- Swirl, Bomb, and Clock (match up the "Punks" before time runs out!).

With more and more schools across the country losing money and laying off staff, it seems that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Just a few months ago, a school in northeast Ohio charged its football players a $450-dollar fee to participate. Over in Strongsville, there was a one hundred-dollar fee for every sport and a general sixty-dollar fee that was established for students in k-12th grades.
California, however, played a rougher ballgame. An article in the New York Times stated that about 35 of California’s school districts have charged for things like art, music, gym uniforms, and books purchased through the school. Even sports programs drew charges — a staggering four hundred dollars to join the wrestling team in one school.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California is suing the State of California, claiming that it defies the constitutional right to a free public education, as described in the 1984 Supreme Court ruling.Read Full Post
