Facebook is known for many things, and surprisingly, being a source for baby names is something it can add to its long list of credentials. I thought that the Egyptian couple who named their baby girl “Facebook” in honor of its role in the revolution was odd, but the popular social network has done it again and has been the inspiration for yet another baby girl’s name. Baby girl Like.
Yes, it’s true. According to Mashable, Lior and Vardit Adler named their baby girl “Like,” not as an homage to Facebook per se, but because they appreciated its meaning and were looking for something unique. They certainly achieved that, didn’t they! Like’s father, Lior, is quoted as telling Israeli daily Israeli newspaper Maariv, “We named her Like because it's modern and innovative. I checked that the name does not exist elsewhere in the country; that was the main condition for me. In our opinion it's the modern equivalent of the name Ahava (Love). It's just my way of saying to my fantastic daughter, 'love.'"
Well when you put it that way, it’s sweet. And as much as we balk at the peculiarity of the name and using a popular technology site as inspiration, consider others before Lior and Vardit who have come up with far more interesting choices for their kids, like Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen (Frank Zappa’s daughter), Speck Wildhorse (John Mellencamp) and the latest celebrity baby name, Bear Blu (Alicia Silverstone).
It could be worse, at least they didn’t name her Poke.
