There are two great free app picks this week, both from a favorite network in many kids’ houses, PBS KIDS.

Last week, PBS KIDS released its new iPad app that shows video clips from great shows like “Wild Kratts,” “Dinosaur Train,” “Super WHY!” “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That” and more. There are more than a thousand (yes, thousand!) video clips to choose from. The sound and video quality are great, but the app would be even better if there were full-length episodes as opposed to just a lot of short (two minute) video clips. Hopefully, that is something they are planning on adding in the future. But back to the app, you can also access your local PBS affiliate’s schedule so you know exactly when the Kratt brothers will be up to their educational animal antics and add clips to a “Favorites” folder.

The other app is called PBS KIDS Photo Factory and it’s an adorable photo app that lets you put your kids alongside their favorite PBS characters. Simply take a new photo or select one from your library, select which character you want to add and voilà, there’s your kid wearing a big yellow hat alongside Curious George! You can email the pictures or share them on your social networks and is certainly a hit among kids.
