Even though my new book Show Dad How has only been out for a couple weeks, it's showing up in the most amazing places. People have been sending me photos from all over the world, so I thought I would share them with you. It's almost too crazy to believe.Read Full Post

I’ve handled number one and number two. (I’ve even handled number three, a rarity that happens when you mix pizza, a bounce house, and 100-degree weather.) Stomach bug? Please. At my house, it’s called every second Tuesday. Big, hairy bugs? Squished. Backed-up toilets? I keep a plunger under my pillow. I’m the titan of tinkle, the prince of poo. Turns out, I’m not so special.Read Full Post

When you Google the phrase “deliver a baby on the subway,” you get about the same amount of results as you do when you search “breast milk ice cream.” (You have no idea how long it took me to find a phrase with a similar number. And no, I don’t have a recipe.) This is a long-winded way of saying that doing the hee, hee, hee, push, hee, hee, hee, push, on the Local 6 is quite rare.Read Full Post

Breasts seem to have a lot of different responsibilities (help sell beer, give bras something to do, etc.). But when I heard that breasts actually have a role in the nourishment of the human race, I was stunned. Why are we forcing humanity’s smorgasbord to wear a bikini in a tequila ad? In other words, breasts are Condoleezza Rice, but we’re treating them like Carmen Electra. My new book Show Dad How gives breasts total respect, and even includes step-by-step instructions for supporting a nursing mom. Learn all about it in this week’s video.Read Full Post

Alright class, take your seats. Welcome back to Dadology 101, my online class for new and expectant dads. Today’s lesson: how to handle delivery day. You’re going to learn what to pack, how to map out a strategic route to the hospital, and what to expect when the baby comes out. And don’t forget to pick up the textbook Show Dad How, my instruction manual for new fathers that’s been getting rave reviews (“Not terrible” - My brother-in-law Steve).Read Full Post

To promote my new book Show Dad How, I got my teaching certification and created the best online class in the history of the Interweb: Dadology 101, where I teach new and expectant dads everything they need to know. Today’s lesson: how to choose a name. I cover where to find inspiration, why celebrity names are a bad idea, and why it’s important to choose a name you won’t mind yelling over and over and over and over in the coming years. So grab your Trapper Keeper, turn to a fresh sheet of looseleaf, and pay attention!Read Full Post

When I started working on Show Dad How, my mission was to write the book that I couldn’t find when I was starting a family. My wife Brandy shared her dog-eared copy of What To Expect When You’re Expecting, and I must say, it was the most interesting coaster I ever had on my nightstand. Guys come into the parenting process in a completely different way, so we need a book written specifically for us. But how do I get them to pick it up at the bookstore? That’s when it came to me: Get the book approved as a legal over-the-counter drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).Read Full Post

On a quiet Saturday afternoon, I gave my wife Brandy a summary of a recent study published in Developmental Psychology that observed the co-parenting practices of 112 couples over the course of a year. The results showed that when fathers participated in the caregiving of their child, it led to increased conflict between Mom and Dad. That’s about when Jackson threw up on the living room rug.Read Full Post

I stood at the podium at the Georgetown Hotel and Conference Center in Washington, D.C., looking at 51 mothers, one from each state and the District of Columbia. They were here with one singular purpose: Change everything about the American education system. It was Parenting's second annual Mom Congress, but I had a different agenda. I spoke into the microphone. "I'm here to meet chicks." Read Full Post

The dad stereotype we’ve all come to know—the working man in the tacky tie, the guy lounging in the La-Z-Boy—is long gone. Archie Bunker is dead, Al Bundy now has a hot Latina wife and a stepson, and La-Z-Boy’s latest celebrity spokesperson is Brooke Shields. It’s time we reevaluated our species.Read Full Post
