Angelina Defends Shiloh’s Tomboy Style

Sure, she’s no Suri. While the littlest Cruise sashays in frilly dresses, designer handbags and sparkly heels (heels!!), Shiloh Jolie-Pitt prefers sporting boys’ neck ties, jackets and a cropped ’do.

In March, Life & Style Weekly ran a cover story which accused Angelina Jolie of turning daughter Shiloh into a boy. Since then, the fashion choices of a FOUR-YEAR OLD continue to spark controversy and make headlines.

Angelina defended her little one’s style this weekend, after receiving criticism for her comments on Shiloh’s look in Vanity Fair’s August issue. "I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making,” she told Reuters. “And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting."

The mom of six said she and partner Brad Pitt value and encourage self-expression in their family. “Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth," she told Reuters. "Society always has something to learn when it comes to the way we judge each other, label each other. We have far to go."

I couldn’t agree more.

I spent my first 5 years happily outfitted in pigtails, ballerina costumes, and every shade of pink in the spectrum. I know that fate has a sense of humor, and will probably send me the most rough-n-tough tomboy of a daughter. I will love her just the same.
