Pom poms, high kicks and cartwheels--all in the name of…science? Meet the Science Cheerleaders. They’re peppy. They’re beautiful. Oh, and their resumes boast impressive accomplishments in neuroscience, molecular biology, NASA engineering, and much more.
Founded by former Philadelphia 76’ers cheerleader Darlene Cavalier, the squad includes current and former pro NBA and NFL cheerleaders, all who are determined to inspire interest and involvement in science and technology for women.
Plus: Science for Girls: How to Encourage Her Interest
I love that these women are dispelling ditzy cheerleader and geeky scientist stereotypes—and getting young girls excited about science. At a time when science, technology, engineering, and math education couldn’t be more important, it’s great to see successful women spread the word that science is definitely something to rah-rah-rah about.
