Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion Recalled

Johnson & Johnson announced a voluntary recall on Friday, January 27 of a single lot of Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion after a test by the Food and Drug Administration found that it contained an excessive amount of a form of bacteria.

Johnson & Johnson recalled 2,200 tubes of the lotion after it identified the bacteria as coagulase-negative Staphylococci, which it described as a family of bacteria that occur naturally in the environment and a "common bacteria often found on the skin and scalp of babies and adults, and found in commonly used household and cosmetic products, at very low levels,” said a press release. The amount that was detected was not released.

The recall only affects tubes with the lot number 0161LK; other lots are unaffected by this recall and may remain available. The company said that this product was distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. Johnson & Johnson Vice President of Communications Bonnie Jacobs stated that the recall is being carried out at the retail level and customers who have bought the product can still use it. The company’s press release described the lotion’s probability to affect one’s health to be low. 

The company urged consumers who had concerns or would like a refund to call their Consumer Call Center at 877-298-2525.
