Duggar Family Expecting 20th Child

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar announced on the TODAY Show this morning that they’re expecting another visit from the stork in April—their twentieth visit, to be exact.

After Michelle’s last pregnancy, the family at the center of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting thought they were done adding to their big, happy family. The Duggars welcomed their last child, Josie, three and a half months early, due to Michelle’s preeclampsia and gallbladder problems. Josie was born weighing a mere 1 pound, 6 ounces. A devout Christian family, the Duggars have never used birth control, preferring to leave their family planning in God’s hands.

Now, at age 45, Michelle is preparing for another baby, with, she says, her doctor’s blessing. She told TODAY that she’s been working out five to six times each week and eating well for the last year—and is now in the best shape she’s seen in twenty years.

Though Mrs. Duggar’s doctor says she’s healthy enough to have another baby, a woman’s risk during pregnancy significantly increases after age 35. And given the complications in her last pregnancy (baby Josie spent six months in the hospital but is now a healthy toddler), Mom might have reason to be nervous.
