Enormous Baby Born in Texas Hospital

Things really are bigger in Texas. At least, that’s what the birth of little JaMichael Brown would have us believe. Born shortly after 9:00 am last Friday morning (by C-section, thank goodness) at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas, he measured in at a whopping 16 pounds, one ounce and two feet long, reports The Today Show. Mom Janet Johnson and dad Michael Brown were told to expect a baby of about 12 or 13 pounds and were shocked their boy was so big, especially since the biggest of the couple’s elder three children weighed in at 8 pounds. They think little JaMichael is so big in part because Johnson developed gestational diabetes.

This super-sized bundle of joy, who’s currently receiving care in the NICU (because such big babies can have difficulty maintaining their blood sugar), is more than twice the size of the average 7 ½-pound baby. Doctors say JaMichael is the biggest baby born at Good Shepherd but can’t confirm that he’s the biggest baby born in Texas.
