Bill Will Force Parents To Tell Schools About Guns At Home

Ever since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting horrified the country, the topic of gun control remains a hotly debated one. The latest salvo in the ongoing battle is a proposed Missouri bill that would make it mandatory for parents to notify their child's school about any guns kept at home.
State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal hopes that this bill will bring awareness to schools and parents about the necessity of keeping guns locked up.
"I am not trying to take away the gun rights of any parents or any other citizens I believe in the second amendment," Chappelle-Nadal, a Democrat, told KSDK News. "It encourages parents to make sure they store their guns safely in their home, it also gives the school districts the opportunity to help encourage gun safety in the community and in the household.”

Senate Bill 124 will also make negligent storage of a firearm an offense.
“A parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 commits the offense by recklessly storing or leaving a firearm in a manner that is likely to result in the child accessing the firearm if the child obtains access to the firearm and unlawfully carries it to school, kills or injures another person with it, or commits a crime with it,” the summary of the bill reads.
Do you think this is a reasonable bill or does it go too far? Leave a comment and let us know.
