As new parents, we’re bound to make some blunders – some for the sake of convenience, some just out of sheer obliviousness.
But one New Zealand mom goofed so spectacularly that we're left wondering if she was so sleep-deprived that the logic centers in her brain shut down completely. Surely she couldn't have thought this through and ended up doing it anyway. Right?
On a recent routine shopping trip, a couple spotted a baby alone in a car parked outside a supermarket. There was a note on top of the sleeping infant that read, “My mum’s in doing the shopping, call her if I need anything.”
Need anything? How about a mom that doesn’t leave her child in the car while she goes shopping?
"We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back," the man who spotted the baby told the New Zealand Herald. "And my wife said, 'I'm not going in without someone being here with the baby.'" The couple also noted that the baby did look well taken care of.
Someone did eventually call the mom, but that's not where the story ends.
A photo of the baby was uploaded to Facebook, and from there it quickly went viral – nothing is more contagious, after all, than outrage and the feeling of surperiority.
If it were a case of new-mom absent-mindedness, the Internet may have been a bit more lenient. But that the mom took the time to write the note and place it in plain view of strangers struck so many as just bizarre.
