Pfizer Recalls One Million Birth Control Pill Packets
February 1, 2012
by Kate Goodin
© FDA
Drug company Pfizer has recalled close to one million birth control packets because the tablets may not contain enough active ingredients to prevent pregnancy, or the pills were packaged out of sequence.
The recall involves 14 lots of Lo/Ovral®-28 (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) tablets and 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets (generic). Check the FDA website for a full list of recalled lot numbers and expiration dates, and view photos of the labels of recalled packets.
The faulty pills do not pose a health risk but could leave women at risk for unintended pregnancies. Women using the recalled pills should notify their doctor, return the pills to their pharmacy and use a back-up method of birth control.
