61-year-old gives birth to her own grandson

While you’re munching on Hershey’s kisses and smelling those sweet roses on your desk, take a gander at this unique love story that simply just warms the heart.

Kristine Casey, 61, of Virginia gave birth Wednesday to her own grandson after serving as surrogate for her daughter, the Chicago Tribune reported.

“It’s such a miracle,” says biological mom Sara Connell of Chicago. Her mom delivered Sara and her husband’s son Finnean Lee Connell by cesarean section. When the baby cried, “I lost it,” Sara said. And the doctor who delivered the baby says there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Sara and her husband decided in 2004 to start a family. When she learned she wasn’t ovulating, they underwent fertility treatments. She delivered stillborn twins and later suffered a miscarriage.

It was then that her mom offered to carry their baby.

Kristine had read about postmenopausal women giving birth and thought, “Wow, three of the happiest days of my life were giving birth to my daughters, and I thought I could choose to do this for someone I love,” Casey said. Her husband, however, was worried about his wife’s health. But after she passed a battery of medical tests, his fears subsided. “From the very beginning, the moment I've wanted is the moment the baby is in their arms,” the Tribune quoted her as saying weeks before the birth. "I've been clear since after my third child that I didn't need to have any more children, and as much as I will be delighted to be a grandmother, I don't want to take a baby home.”

Sara is grateful this day for her mother’s “special gift.” “It grew beyond the two of us having a child,” Connell told the Tribune. “It was about the closeness with my mother, and our family having this experience that was unique and special.”
