Birth mother Joana Delacruz Huerta, 29, allegedly sold her baby back in September to Marilu Munoz, 27, who had apparently already paid some of the installments. Both women have been charged with the sale or purchase of an infant, a third-degree felony. If convicted, both women face up to 10 years in prison as well as a $10,000 fine. Additional charges may follow regarding the falsifying of names on a birth certificate and medical fraud issues.

The infant has been taken into custody by Child Protective Services. According to KCENTV.com, Munoz claims to have been working with a lawyer for the past few months to adopt the baby from Huerta, who has a criminal record for more than a dozen offenses including theft and cocaine possession.
