Celebrity Guest Blog: Actress Tia Mowry on Motherhood

We asked Tia Mowry, child star of Sister, Sister with twin Tamera, and now starring on BET’s The Game and the Style Network’s new reality series Tia & Tamera, to share her pregnancy experience with us earlier this summer. After Mowry and husband Cory Hardrict welcomed son Cree Taylor Hardrict on June 28th, we checked back in with Mowry to get her thoughts on…
Cree’s birth:
My birthing experience was... an interesting experience.
I was scared half to death because I had a c-section. Just the thought of someone cutting into me freaked me out! However, I had an amazing doctor, Dr. Kumeitz, who has the sweetest, most calming spirit. I also had an amazing epidural. The shot hurt worse than the actual birthing process, so I was in luck! What really made it special was that the doctor and room allowed me to play some music. I don't usually listen to classical music but I did during my birthing experience. Pandora has an amazing list of songs. Even the doctors enjoyed the music!

Breastfeeding:
I love breastfeeding! It's mommy and baby time. Just seeing how peaceful he is makes me melt. He has been great at latching on since Day One. I feel blessed! He's a fast learner. I was also afraid of introducing him to the bottle thinking he would not like the breast anymore but he has been doing well with that. What I like about switching back and forth with the bottles is my boobies get a break!

Her first few weeks as a new mom:
The first few weeks with baby Cree were exhausting and amazing at the same time, if that makes sense. Having a newborn is very challenging. I think I learned how to sleep with my eyes open and standing up! Babies grow so fast and seeing this process and how they thrive day-by-day makes it all worth it. Now that he is two months old, it's gotten much better! Cory and I do shifts so that's always nice. Sometimes he will go four hours straight and that's a bonus!

Marriage, post-baby:
Cree has brought my husband and I even closer. My advice to couples who want to have a baby is to make sure your relationship is intact and strong because you are going to need to support of one another.
