Easter Eggs Recalled for Salmonella

Update: Zachary Confections says the test was mistaken, and subsequent tests for salmonella have been negative. They say the eggs are safe for consumption.

Before you go shopping for your kids’ Easter baskets, read this! Zachary Confections have recalled some lots of their chocolate-covered marshmallow eggs due to possible salmonella contamination.

A routine post-production test revealed the possibility of salmonella contamination, so despite no reports of illness, the company is voluntarily recalling the products. Salmonella poisoning can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever and headache. It is especially dangerous to people with weakened immune systems, children and the elderly.

The eggs come in white egg crates with purple, green and yellow lettering. They’ve been distributed stores in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
