The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with KidCo Inc., of Libertyville, IL, is announcing the voluntary recall of around 220,000 PeaPod and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds. Babies and toddlers can roll off the edge of the inflatable mattress, becoming trapped between it and the fabric sides of the tent, where they can suffocate.
A 5-month-old boy died while sleeping in the travel bed. There are also nine other reports of “physical distress” linked to use of the beds in the US and Canada.
The following models and fabric colors are included in this recall:
P203: Quick Silver
The beds were sold at stores nationwide and on Amazon.com for between $70 and $100. If you own one, you should not it and contact KidCo to get a free repair kit. The kits will vary depending on the model and will be shipped to consumers starting in December 2012. Call KidCo at (855) 847-8600 or visit the firm’s website at www.kidco.com to order your kit.
