Companies Busted for Not Giving Working Moms a Place to Pump

Back in spring 2010, we reported on new legislation that affords working moms regular breaks and a place that’s not a bathroom to breastfeed and/or pump. Although the official rules have yet to been finalized, the Department of Labor has already been citing companies for failure to make accommodations. So far, 23 companies have been cited. If they don’t comply, they could be slapped with a fine.

Among the companies are some names you might know:
Dillard’s: Failure to provide adequate space and failure to provide reasonable time to pump. They’ve agreed to comply.
Starbucks: Failure to provide adequate space. They’ve agreed to comply.
McDonald’s franchise based in Murrieta, Calif.: Failure to provide reasonable time to pump. They’ve agreed to comply.

If you believe your employer has violated the law, you can contact the Department of Labor’s toll-free helpline at 1-866-487-9243.
Did you pump? If so, what kind of accommodations did you company make?
