Do Your Kids Call Grandma “Grandma?”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s kids call grandmother Blythe Danner “Lalo,” and Goldie Hawn has her grandkids call her “Glam-Ma.” For some women, “Grandma” connotes an image of an out-of-touch granny with white hair and pearls—in other words, old. But according to the U.S. Census, grandparents are actually getting younger, officially earning the title with the birth of their first grandchild on average at the age of 47. So, according to the New York Times, many baby boomer grandparents are figuring out their own unique monikers.

Some grandparents name themselves, or end up with a cute name their grandkids come up with (although my kids call her Grandma, my mom’s other grandkids call her Gee-Ma). Grandparents.com even has a huge list of traditional, trendy, playful and international names to choose from.
