Children’s Letters on Gun Violence

This week, President Obama unveiled his plan to curb gun violence, which includes banning military-style assault weapons, closing loopholes in background checks, and conducting more research on the effects of video game violence. When Obama presented his plan, he was joined on stage by four children who wrote the President letters after the shooting in Newtown.

"These are some pretty smart letters from some pretty smart young people," Obama said in introducing the letter writers. 

Here, the kids, who range from ages 8 to 11, read their sweet and hopeful letters to the president.

Letter from Hinna.

"I feel really sad. Also, I feel terrible for the parents who lost their children."

 Letter from Grant.

"I think there should be some changes in the law with guns."

Letter from Julia.

"Even though I am not scared for my own safety, I am scared for others."

Letter from Taejah.

"I thought I would write to you to stop gun violence."
