Good news for working parents: a new study has found that kids in formal center- or home-based daycare have stronger verbal skills than those not in daycare. The study by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health looked at almost 20,000 children at ages 1.5 and 3, and found that those in daycare were less likely to be late talkers. Kids who attended daycare full-time had an edge over kids who went only part-time.
While this is certainly no reason to change a childcare situation that’s working for you, whether it’s staying at home, employing a sitter, having Grandma watch the kiddos, or a combination, it’s certainly reassuring news for working parents.
