Mom Delivers Quintuplets
August 15, 2012
by Sasha Emmons
Can you imagine going from one child to six, in five minutes? Missionary couple Gavin and Carrie Jones are parents to the first set of quintuplets born this year. Will, David, Seth, Marcie and Grace (that’s three boys and two girls) are stable in the NICU at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Born at 27 weeks, the babies required a team of 50 doctors and nurses for their quick c-section delivery, and ranged in weight from 1 pound, 12 ounces to 2 pounds, 11 ounces. The couple, who work in Papua New Guinea supporting bible translation in the country’s more than 200 languages, also have an 8-year-old son, Isaac. It’s unclear when they will be able return home to the South Pacific.
Plus: Enormous Baby Born in Texas Hospital
Although having quintuplets is extremely rare (on average, there are about 12 sets born each year), what we find really surprising is that these multiple were not a result of IVF. However, the couple did use injections to conceive.
