Some Smucker’s Uncrustables Recalled
October 19, 2012

The hits just keep on coming! The peanut product recall for salmonella that started with Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia version and expanded to include hundreds of other peanut products now also includes Uncrustables sandwiches that were sent to schools.
Smucker’s used Sunland peanut butter that was provided by the USDA and has since been recalled, for limited production runs of bulk packs of the sandwiches that went to schools under the National School Lunch Program. Smucker’s tested the peanut butter before using it in its products and found it safe, but out of an “abundance of caution,” is recalling the round, crustless sandwiches just in case. Schools have been notified that they should check to see if they have any of the recalled lots, and should not serve them to students.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, cramps and fever 12 to 72 hours after eating the infected food. Children are particularly susceptible, and can require hospitalization.
