Study: One in 12 Kids May Have a Food Allergy

A new study confirms what many parents of kids with allergies have long suspected: As many as 8 percent of American children under 18 suffer from food allergies, which amounts to nearly 6 millions kids. Forty percent of allergic kids have severe reactions, and 30 percent are allergic to multiple foods.

The study, published in the latest issue of the journal Pediatrics, suggest that food allergies are much more prevalent than earlier studies suggest. The most common allergy was to peanuts, followed by milk and shellfish.
