You will need:
Glass jar with lid, such as a mustard or relish jar. Shorter and wider jars work best.
Spring-themed cupcake toppers, such as flowers or bugs
Spring-themed sequins, such as flowers or leaves
Wet foam (available at craft stores)
What to do
- Remove the label from the glass jar. Tip: Use a cotton pad and nail-polish remover to remove any remaining adhesive from the jar.
- Cut a piece of wet foam that is about 1 inch thick and slightly larger than the diameter of the bottom of the jar.
- Soak the wet foam in water for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Using the knife, trim away the edges of the wet foam slightly in order to stuff it in the jar, but not too much so the foam will fit snuggly in the jar.
- Push wet foam to the bottom of the inside of the jar.
- Place the cupcake toppers in the foam. You may need to cut the tips to push the toppers deeply in the foam.
- Fill the jar to the top with room-temperature water.
- Add five to ten sequins to the water, depending on the size of your jar.
- You can't take the glitter out of the water if you put too much in, so add a small amount of glitter to the water, close the jar with the lid, and shake the jar to test how it looks. Repeat these steps until you get the effect you would like in your globe.
- Seal the jar tightly with the lid.
- Fold a piece of tissue paper in half, place it on top of the lid, and secure it with an elastic band.
- Trim the edges of the tissue paper with scissors to neatly reveal the rest of the jar.
- Glue ribbon trim around the lid on the tissue paper, covering the elastic band.
- Add any extra spring decorations to your lid for a special, personal touch.
