    Editor's Note On PlayStation Move

PlayStation Move is a new motion control system for the PlayStation 3 that lets players control games in a manner similar to that made popular by the Wii's remote and nunchuk. It consists of the wand-like PlayStation Move Motion Controller and the PlayStation Eye camera. Some games also require the new Navigation Controller, though players can use a standard PlayStation controller in its place. These peripherals can be purchased separately, together, or as part of bundles that also include the PlayStation 3 console and/or a game. Sony and third-party game makers support this platform with many family-friendly games, making it -- along with Microsoft's new controllerless Kinect interface for Xbox 360 -- an important consideration for parents investigating video game options. We've included several games designed for PlayStation Move, noting in each case when it's required for play.

Note: Players need the PlayStation Move Motion Controller for this game.

    Price: $17.80, Start the Party

Another game designed for PlayStation Move, this is a collection of simple mini-games in which players see themselves onscreen holding virtual objects that have been mapped to their controller-wielding hand. In one game players might swat bugs that seem to be flying around the living room, and in another they use the controller as a flashlight to find roaming, floating ghosts. Games can be organized into competitions for group play, but most families will enjoy taking turns with the controller for short bursts of fun, or to see who can achieve the highest score in a particular game.

    Joe Danger

This cartoonish, downloadable motorcycle racing game is essentially Excitebike for a new generation. Players race down a straight track taking on or avoiding obstacles such as ramps and hurdles as they try to collect items, score points, and reach the finish line as quickly as possible. If kids tire of the career mode, they can head into the track editor and create the course of their dreams, making sky-high jumps and wild loops. Price: $22.63, Katamari Forever

The strange-yet-addictive Katamari games have developed a cult following, and this entry - the first on the PS3 - offers the grandest, most immersive experience yet. Here's the admittedly surreal concept: A katamari is a little ball - rolled around by a thimble-sized prince - which has its own gravitational pull. Anything smaller than the katamari will stick to it, so as you steer your ball through houses, parks, cities, etc, a snowball effect occurs and the katamari gets bigger and bigger.
