Celeb Parents Spill All

  • Breast vs. bottle

"Breastfeeding was exhausting. I am glad I did it. [But] I just really started to feel like myself and had more energy when I stopped."

--Denise Richards, mom of Sam, 2, and Lola, 1 (PEOPLE)

"I breastfed my daughter for two years and three months. The biggest obstacle for me was, sadly, public opinion. After my daughter was toddling, people felt free to volunteer that it was time to wrap it up."

--Ana Gasteyer, 'Saturday Night Live' alumna, mom of Frances, age 4 (Babytalk)

  • The name game

On choosing the name Grier: "It's so hokey, but I woke up in the middle of the night just thinking of the name. I don't know anyone named Grier. The next day I'd forgotten it, but that night I woke up again at 3 a.m. thinking of the name." -- Brooke Shields, mom of Rowan, 3, and Grier, 5 months (PEOPLE)

On naming his daughter Sam: "Some of these celebrity names today are way out there," says Charlie Sheen (dad of Sam, 2, and Lola, 1). "It might be cool for a parent to introduce Binocular Jones when he's 6 months old, but in school, it's sort of a curse." Sam was the name of a cat Sheen once had. "I hated the cat," he admits, "but loved the name."

  • New-mom nervousness

"I'm not going to lie -- those first few weeks [of motherhood] were really intense. I thought I'd be, like, Earth Mama, breastfeeding while I walked around the pool. But I was a mess. I cried every day for two weeks. I must say, though -- it's because I'm dramatic."

-- Kate Hudson, mom of Ryder, 2 (InStyle)

"I was really nervous. I had never held a baby until I held my own. But the hardest part for me was not sleeping. I did not sleep for six months. It was awful."

-- Reese Witherspoon, mom of Ava, 7, and Deacon, 2 (InStyle)

  • Keeping it all together

"It's a battle I deal with every day... Working, parenting, and having desires to do both."

-- Michelle Williams, mom to Matilda, 11 months (PEOPLE)

"The notion of women struggling to get everything right -- career, motherhood, marriage, friendships -- interests me, personally and in general. The way we beat ourselves to a bloody pulp because we can't get it perfect. But the act of trying to get it right is moving to me."

-- Michelle Pfeiffer, mom to Claudia Rose, 13, and John Henry, 12 (InStyle)

  • Dad's side

"The best thing about fatherhood for me has been the actual challenge of it. Never before have I been so tested in life, sport, anywhere. All three of my kids keep me on my toes constantly!"

-- Lance Armstrong, dad to Luke and twins Isabelle and Grace (InStyle)

"When she started coming out, I got lightheaded. I had to sit down. There's nothing like that in the world. When she started crying, I said, 'Karsten, it's okay,' and she just stopped crying. She knew her name."

-- Ray Liotta, dad to Karsten, 8 (InStyle)
