The soccer star recently stripped down and flaunted his bod—and many tattoos—for H&M’s Superbowl commercial. They include the names of his sons—Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz—on his back with a guardian angel looking over them. Little daughter Harper’s name graces his collarbone. For “Posh” wife Victoria, Becks has inked the Hindi version of her name and a portrait of her posing in lingerie coupled with the phrase “Till Death Do Us Part” underneath.
The patriarch of the globe-trotting Jolie-Pitt family (which includes kiddos Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne) picked up a lot from his fiancée Angelina—from a passion for humanitarianism to a love of ink. Brad’s first tattoo was an outline of the oldest full human fossil ever found, known as Ötzi the Iceman. He also has a German phrase which translates to “life is absurd” and a representation of the New Orleans levees, which he got in honor of the city he helped rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
Johnny wears his heart on his sleeve—or, er, on his chest, biceps, arms, and so on. Although he’s famous for the ill-fated “Winona Forever” tattoo (which he got in honor of then-girlfriend Winona Ryder), he’s had plenty of others inked to commemorate loved ones long after Winona had been shortened to Wino post-breakup. Among these is a heart with his mother Betty Sue’s name on his arm, a Cherokee Indian chief to honor his native heritage, daughter Lily Rose’s name across his heart, and a sparrow flying toward him with his son Jack’s name underneath—based on the tattoo his character Captain Jack Sparrow sports in Pirates of the Caribbean. He also has a tattoo of three hearts, one for each member of the Depp clan, proving he’s a family man through-and-through!
Although Joel’s tattoos are mostly spiritual in nature—his ink includes the faces of Jesus and the Virgin Mary and images of a cross, an angel, and hands clasped in prayer—this papa has still gotten into hot water due to his decorated skin; British Airways once didn’t let him board a flight to Lisbon until he hid his tats. That’s alright, we’re sure wife Nicole Riche, daughter Harlow, and son Sparrow will accept daddy just as he is.
If the middle name of Pete’s son—Bronx Mowgli—wasn’t enough to give away his love of Disney, he also has a Nightmare Before Christmas sleeve tattooed up his right arm and a star drawn between the number two and the letter ‘R’ on his right middle finger, for “the second star to the right” directions to Neverland. It’s safe to say that Pete is as fond of tattoos as he is of the Mouse, as the rocker is pretty heavily inked.
LeBron is another inductee into the Proud Papa Club. The athlete has gotten tattoos in honor of his sons, LeBron James Jr. and Bryce Maximus, which include their first initials on his triceps and their portraits on his arms. He also has his mother’s name tattooed on his right shoulder and the word “family” along his rib cage.
Kobe has the names of his daughters, Natalie and Gianna, tattooed on his right wrist. After some, ah, marital troubles with wife Vanessa, he got her name tattooed below a crown held aloft by butterflies, as well as the silhouette of Vanessa’s hair and a halo on his right bicep, as an apology. Unfortunately, the gesture wasn’t enough to keep the couple together and they have since split.
While we may know him as Conan the Barbarian or Daenerys Targaryen’s late, warlord husband from Game of Thrones, Jason is likely just “papa” to little Lola and Nakoa-Wolf—his children with wife Lisa Bonet of Cosby Show fame. He got his first tattoo before his daughter was born, of a shark with arrows pointing outward on his left arm. The animal serves as a guardian animal for his family, and all of his cousins have the same tattoo. His other ink includes a line from a Charles Baudelaire poem (translated as “always be drunken”) and the name of his production company “Pride of Gypsies.” In an interview with Inked Magazine, Jason mentions that he and Lisa also have a few special tattoos that are meaningful to them—Aw!
As stylist Cinna, Lenny Kravitz played the role of Katniss Evergreen’s father figure in The Hunger Games. The rocker must have had plenty of experience to draw on—he has a daughter, Zoë Kravitz, with ex-wife Lisa Bonet. As for his ink, Lenny has a large tattoo across his back that reads “My Heart Belongs to Jesus Christ,” a Japanese-style dragon on his left shoulder, a patch of flowers on his left arm, and a cross composed of rectangles and triangles on his right bicep.
Dad to Violet, Seraphina and Samuel, Ben has reportedly said that he regrets the tattoos he got done when he was younger and has even considered getting them removed. For now, however, he has a dolphin on his hip which allegedly covers up the name of a high school sweetheart, a cross on his left arm, a skull and crossbones tat with a fish as the centerpiece, among others.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
This wrestler-turned-actor and dad to daughter Simone Alexandra has his trademarked Brahma Bull tattooed into his right bicep, for his astrological sign and the nickname he earned in the WWE. The Rock also traveled to Hawaii to get the large Samoan shield on his right shoulder inked by a well-know Tahitian tattooist, in honor of his family history and ancestry.
Ewan has a heart and dagger tattoo with the names of his long-time wife Eve and the couple’s four daughters: Clara, Esther, Jamiyan, and Anouk.
Robert Downey Jr.
This Iron Man actor has two relatively simple tattoos: “Susie Q” on his left shoulder for spouse Susan and “Indio" for the son he had with ex-wife Deborah Falconer.
Orlando, who has fathered ridiculously-cute son Flynn with wife Miranda Kerr, has been tattooed since he was fifteen—he got a sun on the left side of his lower abdomen right before moving to London. To celebrate their involvement in the filming of The Lord of the Rings, each actor who played one of the nine members in “The Fellowship” got the same tattoo: the word “nine” written in Elvish script, which Orlando sports on his right wrist. He also has a large, bare tree that covers half his torso.
