Mattel Recalls 844,000 Toys

Barbie® Dream Kitty Condo™ Playset

For the third time this summer, Mattel has issued a toy recall involving Chinese manufactured toys. Barbie accessories and Fisher-Price brand toys have been pulled due to excessive amounts of lead in the surface paint.

While no Barbie dolls are included in the recall, 675,000 units of accessory toys sold between October 2006 through August 2007 are. Excessive amounts of lead were detected in the dogs and cats and other accessories in the Barbie Dream Puppy House and Kitty Condo Playsets, the Barbie Table and Chairs Kitchen Playset, the Barbie Bathtub and Toilet Playset, the Barbie Futon and Table Living Room Playset, the Barbie Desk and Chair Bedroom Playset, and the Barbie Couch & Table Living Room Playset.

In addition, about 90,000 Fisher-Price Geo Trax Locomotive Toys and about 8,900 Fisher-Price Bongo Band Toys are being pulled off the shelves due to high lead content in the paint.

Although there have been no reported incidents or injuries involving the lead paint, parents are advised to take away the toys from children.
