Who is the story about? Emma
Description Emma is a young girl who want a dog "more than anything else in the whole, wide world!"
Who else is in the story? Papa, Mama, Laura Jo- the dog shelter volunteer, Dizzy, and Kayak
Where are they? Emma and her family live in a small town in rural Montana. This story takes place at home and at the local dog shelter.
What are they doing? Emma and her folks visit the dog shelter to pick out a puppy.
Why are they doing that? Emma has begged her parents for a puppy for months. When they visit the dog shelter, the volunteer, Laura Jo, thinks Emma would like Dizzy, a jumpy energetic pup, but Emma has her eye on anther dog altogether.
What happens to everyone? Emma chooses a nobile Husky like dog with a shy, quiet charm, named Kayak. He licks her hand as they walk out of the dog shelter.
What's your favorite part of the story? Emma recognizes that Kayak is the dog for her. When their eyes meet they seem to recognize each other. Emma is not interested in any other dog.
