Name of my story The Locked Block

Who is the story about? Bat the B Bandit

Description Bat the B Bandit loves to build things with the letter B. He loves it so much that he decides he doesn’t want to share and wants all of the B letters for himself.

Who else is in the story? Sherry Share and the citizens of Block Land

Where are they? Our story takes place in Block Land where everyone loves to build things out of blocks.

What are they doing? Bat the B Bandit is taking all of the B blocks for himself.

Why are they doing that? Bat the B Bandit doesn’t understand why he should share his favorite block with others. He takes the B from BLOCK Land’s sign and turns the word into LOCK. This locks all of the blocks into place and no one can build anything. Sherry tries to convince Bat to return the missing B and share it with everyone.

What happens to everyone? Bat gets lonely. Sherry tells him that she would enjoy building with him and being friends, but he needs to share his letter B for them to unlock the rest of the blocks. Bat learns that it is more fun to share the blocks and work together than to keep them to himself.

What's your favorite part of the story? This story naturally developed one day when my daughter was making words with our building set. My son took his favorite letter B from her word BLOCK. That is how I created the story of Block Land to explain the importance of sharing and team work. I love how it incorporates my children’s favorite building set while teaching the importance of sharing and working together. As I told this story I had my children act it out with their blocks. My favorite part of the story is when my son, acting out Bat’s part, returned the B to the word block and my children began building more words together.

What would you build out of LEGO® DUPLO® blocks to bring your story to life? My children enjoyed building all of the scenes as I told the story. They built Block Land and Bat's house. I took a picture of the scene where Bat takes the B from the word BLOCK changing it into LOCK, locking the letters into place.
