Who is the story about? Dax the Duck
Description Dax the Duck runs into several of his friends at the pond who proceed to point out all of the things that are going wrong with Dax's Day. However, Dax refuses to let it ruin his mood and instead decides to concentrate on all of the things he is grateful for. In the end, Dax's positive attitude pays off with a big suprise party with all of his friends.
Who else is in the story? Stanley the Squirrel, Walden the Woodpecker, Samantha the Snake, Caty the Calico, and Greg the Golden Retriever.
Where are they? It's a pretty day at the pond and then it begins to rain. Dax the Duck is making his away across the pond to find some shelter when he runs into Stanley the Squirrel who races up the nearby tree. Stanley is in a really bad mood because he hates to get wet and starts making fun of Dax because he can not climb up a tree. Dax looks at the positive side of things and is just thankful that he has webbed feet to carry him across the pond and out of the rain.
What are they doing? As Dax waits for the rain to stop, he runs into another friend near the big tree. Walden the Woodpecker is using his beak to carve a hole into the tree so he can hide from the rain. He is tired and cranky and makes fun of Dax for not being able to fly. Dax is just grateful that he has eyes to see the beautiful rainbow that just came out from behind the clouds.
Why are they doing that? As friend after friend attempt to dampen Dax's positive spirit, as funny thing starts to happen. They all begin to stop complaining and start realizing how lucky they really are. Thanks to Dax, everyone's perspective starts to change and all the friend's become appreciative of what they have.
What happens to everyone? To show Dax how much they all appreciate his friendship, all of the friends decide to throw a big suprise party at the pond. Even though Dax can't run up a tree, fly to the highest branch, slither in the cool grass, purr a fine tune, or catch a flying frisbee like all of his friends, he realized he is the luckiest duck of all because he has many great friends.
What's your favorite part of the story? I like the part when Dax realizes that even though he may not have all of the special gifts that his friends have, he still is incredibly lucky for what he DOES have. This is a great life lesson for anyone who reads the book...both adults and children.
What would you build out of LEGO® DUPLO® blocks to bring your story to life? My son will build the characters that Dax meets at the pond.
