Name of my story Tibor's Travels Teach

Who is the story about? Tibor, the child of a military General

Description Tibor is a young boy whose family just moved to a new city in a new country with a different culture.

Who else is in the story? Tibor's mom and dad and people they meet walking around the new city. They meet Sanjay the Snake Charmer, Pankaj the Property Owner, Tilak the Technologist, the temple Pundit and Raj the Restaurant Owner.

Where are they? They are in Delhi, India.

What are they doing? They are exploring different areas of the city and talking to various people they meet on the street to learn about the city- its food, sights and sounds that are all new to them.

Why are they doing that? They will live in New Delhi for at least one year and want to learn about its culture, and get to know their way around the city that will be their new home.

What happens to everyone? While walking around the old section of the city, known as "Old Delhi," they see a man sitting on the sidewalk with a basket in front of him, playing a flute. After looking at him for a couple of seconds, Tibor cries out, "It's a snake!" and points at the basket. "Let's get a closer look at the man's magic trick," says Tibor's dad. They walk over to the man with the "magic" flute, and watch him for a few minutes. After serenading his snake back into the basket, the man said, "I am Sanjay the Snake Charmer." Tibor replied, "is it magic?" "No sir, it is my job. I come from a long family line of snake charmers. It was my destiny to do this. I do this every day to entertain people and to make money to feed my kids," said Sanjay pointing to a bucket with coins in it. "Thank you. That is quite a skill," said Tibor's mom as she threw some coins into the bucket. Next they walk into a gold gilded temple that caught Tibor's attention because the building was so fancy and shaped differently than other buildings. "Namaste," said the Pundit, a round shaped man dressed in white. "Namaste," replied Tibor's dad, who then explained to Tibor that this is a word of greetings. The Pundit showed the family how to walk through the Hindu temple and pay respects to the Hindu gods. "You do not need to be Hindu to be welcome in the temples- all religions are respected by the Hindu gods," said the Pundit. While walking past a restaurant, after leaving the temple, a man called out, "We have very good Indian food here- come in and eat." "What is Indian food?" asked Tibor. "Come in and find out. I'm Raj, and I own this restaurant. I promise you will like my food," said the man. The restaurant was crowded and they were seated at a table with two other men and their families. "Hello, I'm Punkaj and this is my wife and son and daughter," said one man. "I'm Tilak and this is my wife and son and two daughters," said the other man. "Hello, this is my son Tibor and my wife, replied Tibor's dad. "Punkaj and I come here every week for lunch. Our kids go to school together and our wives are friends. I am a software engineer for a technology company and Punkaj is a property owner and rents out space in his buildings," explained Tilak. My wife, son and I just moved here from the United States," said Tibor's dad. "I've been to the US many times for work, and both my family and Punkaj's family have vacationed in the US as well," replied Tilak. "The various states in India are all different from one another with different foods, languages and weather just like the different states in the U.S.," added Punkaj. Tibor and the children of the Technologist and Property Owner started playing games at the table, while the adults talked. They ate and talked for two hours and made plans to see each other again soon. "Wow, the kids here are just like my friends in the U.S." said Tibor to his parents while leaving the restaurant. They all ended the day feeling happy about their new home, and excited about their new friends.

What's your favorite part of the story? When Tibor and his family meet the Technologist and Property Owner and their families and everyone becomes friends.

What would you build out of LEGO® DUPLO® blocks to bring your story to life? We would use Lego Duplo blocks to build a jet plane and a city with skyscrapers and other buildings (homes, stores, temples, churches, restaurants) and a park with a lake.
