4th of July Recap: Photo Album of the Weekend!

July 6, 2010
6

Since today feels like five Mondays rolled into one (there’s nothing like a four-day weekend but man does Tuesday hit hard), I thought we’d take it easy and talk about our weekends. Mine was just what the doctor ordered. 4th of July weekend usually winds up being a letdown for me because everyone expects you to have great plans and, well, we never do. Not the case this year. We went to the beach on eastern Long Island with some friends who have a house out there and we had an absolute blast. There wasn’t much sitting down and there was certainly no book reading or staring quietly into space (unless you count the shooting star sightings we got every night!) but boy was it fun.

Nick and I took Friday off and spent three nights and four days in full-on vacation mode (vacation mode with two children with us 24/7—we all slept in the same room—so not quite vacation vacation). We swam in the ocean, cooked delicious, fresh foods, ate ice cream at the beach, caught lightening bugs, played kickball and, yes, drank lots of wine. When we pulled into our driveway yesterday, Alex and I headed straight to his bed where we both passed out for two hours. An awesome weekend, indeed. Here are some pictures. Enjoy! And tell me how you celebrated the 4th….

Packing four people for the beach is no easy feat--you should have seen the rest of the car!

The Ruddy family on our first beach outing of Summer 2010!

It was a little too bright for photos....

Alex saw the big kids jumping off the lifeguard stand so he had to do it. I was not a fan.

My beach girl

The ocean was a brisk 64 degrees--and rough--but Alex and I braved it.

He got freezing and we got out almost immediately. But I went back in and LOVED it. So rereshing. Like, take-your-breath-away refreshing!

Two of my oldest girfriends. We can pick up where we left off like no time has passed at all--love that!

Alex vs. the sprinkler. Guess who won?

Adult time after the kids went to bed...nice!

Happy 4th everyone!!!

I was excited when I got an email and I saw that you have a blog. I don't usually comment on anything.....but I have to tell you that I used to follow your articles in Glamour, from before you were even married or anything. I have to admit that I no longer read Glamour, I hardly have time to check emails let alone read a magazine!!!! I have a little girl that just turned 15 months on July 4th and now one on the way in January. I was always interested in how you were doing and then how your sister was doing, that's mainly the reason I read Glamour. I am glad to see that things are good for you and what a beautiful family you have!!!! I am assuming that all is well. The last I remember you were debating on whether you should take a medicine for your treatment and how it would affect your baby. I think you had just become pregnant. Now look at those 2 beautiful babies!!

Hey Erin...How is your sister

Hey Erin...How is your sister Melissa's son doing? I remember from your life with cancer blog that when he was born he had some form of epilepsy/seizures? I was just wondering how he was doing now that he is older? He must be what almost two now? I hope everything is going well! I too am a long islander and I have been reading your blog since your life with cancer days(which by the way is their anyway to access the archives from that blog)? I actually get my haircut at cactus in Huntington and I frequent Honu, Macs and Prime very often! Anyway I hope your summer is going by! Those little babies of yours are absolutely adorable! We actually have a few more things in common(like knowing a few of the same people amongst other things). I would love to email you/hear from you!

I hope nothing has gone wrong

I hope nothing has gone wrong with your family, Erin. If that is not the case, I think your readers at least deserve an "I'll be on vacation for the next few weeks" post . . .
