Actress Mila Kunis and fiancé Ashton Kutcher are expecting their first child. On a recent episode of "Ellen," she told the talk show host that she's planning on having a natural birth.
"We watched a couple of documentaries, and we looked into the ... midwife aspect of it and things and spoke to my OB/GYN and realized that the hospital that I'm going to be laboring in does a midwife, you know, doula type of thing," Mila says.
She said she didn't want an epidural and added, "I mean, I did this to myself. I might as well do it right."
The 30-year-old joins other stars who have planned on giving birth "naturally," some with success and some without. They define "naturally" as unmedicated vaginal births.
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen not only had a drug-free home birth with her first child, but she also claims it was painfree!
"I did yoga and meditation, so I managed to have a very tranquil birth at home. It didn't hurt in the slightest," she says.
Of course, the majority of women aren't lucky enough to have a painless birthing experience. Oftentimes things don't go as planned when it comes to a drug-free birth. Actress Kate Winslet planned for a natural birth but ending up with an emergency C-section.
"I just said that I had a natural birth because I was so completely traumatized by the fact that I hadn't given birth. I felt like a complete failure," she says.
Fortunately, it sounds like Mila realizes things can change very quickly during labor. She told Ellen, "I'm going to do it as all-natural as I possibly can unless there's an emergency or something."
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher stared in the hit TV series "That '70s Show" from 1998–2006 but didn't start a relationship with each other until mid-2012. Ukraine-born Kunis says Kutcher has been taking Russian language lessons "for probably, like, six months now" so he can share her native language with their baby. The baby is rumored to be due in early September.
