McNeil-PPC has announced a voluntary recall of 4 million bottles of Agent Cool Blue Plaque-Detecting Rinse. The preservative system in the rinse does not protect adequately against certain microorganisms.

The health risk is low for healthy persons, but the rinse may pose a significant risk to consumers with weakened or suppressed immune systems. The Agent Cool Blue Plaque-Detecting Rinse tints plaque blue for better targeted brushing. A cartoon character is printed on the front of the bottle.

The rinse was introduced in 2006 and sold at supermarkets, drugstores, other retail outlets, and dental offices nationwide. No other Listerine products are affected by this recall.

Consumers should stop using the product and discard it. To receive a full refund, call 1-888-222-0249 and mail in the product's back label, including the UPC code.
