Thomas, Curious George Toys Recalled

Spinning tops and tin pails featuring these characters contain excessive levels of lead

Spinning tops and tin pails from Schylling Associates Inc. of Rowley, Massachusetts have been recalled because surface paints on the wooden handles of the tops and pails contain excessive levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.

About 66,000 tops and 4,700 pails, which were made in China, are included in this recall. The tops are painted with Thomas and Friends, Curious George, or a circus scene; the pails are painted with Thomas and Friends, Curious George, or a solid red or yellow color. Tops with plastic handles are not included in the recall. The recalled tops and pails were sold for $13 and $6 respectively at specialty toy stores and gift shops nationwide from July 2001 to July 2002.

Parents should immediately take the toys away from children and contact Schylling to get a refund or replacement toy.
