Pregnancy: What to Expect Week 8
You're eight-weeks pregnant and you're appetite is growing. However, there are many things doctors caution against eating. Young mom Dawn Siff breaks down why you should be careful with cold cuts, hot
You're eight weeks pregnant. Hi, everybody. I'm Dawn Stiff, and you're growing and glowing. Your baby is about the size of a kidney bean. That little bean is constantly moving and shifting in there. But it's so small you won't feel a thing yet. The ears are forming, the eyelids are starting to cover the eyes. Your uterus is expanding to make room. Your appetite is also growing. So, let's talk about food. You may have heard you're not supposed to eat cold cuts while you're pregnant. So, what's that all about? That's because there's a food-borne bacteria found on refrigerated lunch meats, salami, hotdogs. You can still eat it, but to be on the safe side, you're gonna be told to re-heat it to kill the bacteria. I just skipped the cold cuts when I was pregnant 'cause re-heated lunch meat didn't sound that appetizing to me. So, what's the deal with cheese? Unpasteurized cheese can have that same bacteria. The good news is most of the cheese you're gonna find in the U.S. in supermarkets and restaurants is okay to eat. You should check the label or ask the waiter if you're concerned. And by the way, if you're still keeping your pregnancy a secret, asking the waiter that is a dead giveaway. So, you're gonna wanna pull on the side. Other foods to avoid? Raw fish like in sushi, undercooked meat. Really anything sketchy. Talk to your doctor about food restrictions. Some people are more cautious than others. You need to do what's right for you as you keep growing and glowing.
