1. Ask yourself, “Does it need to be within reach while I’m in bed?” If not, put the paper piles somewhere else.
2. Recycle old magazines and shelve half-read books. Try to limit yourself to one piece of reading material by your bed at a time.
3. Keep a coaster for your bedside glass of water. It’ll remind you to keep only one glass there (and prevent water rings).
4. Reclaim the space. Put out a plant or a photo of your family — something calming (it’ll keep you from cluttering it up again!).
