Getting mobile phone insurance isn’t exactly the first priority on everyone’s minds, but when a curious little kid accidentally drops the iPhone into the toilet, spills juice on it or throws it down the stairs, you’ll wish you had put that ‘to do’ higher on the list.
Getting mobile phone insurance isn’t exactly the first priority on everyone’s minds, but when a curious little kid accidentally drops the iPhone into the toilet, spills juice all over it or throws it down the stairs, you’ll wish you had put that ‘to do’ higher on the list.
Luckily for AT&T customers, the company just announced that starting on July 17th, owners of all iPhone models are eligible for its Mobile Insurance program, as originally reported by Mac Rumors. As opposed to the current insurance plan that AT&T currently offers through a third-party provider at $11.99/month, the new program offers protection against loss, theft, accidental physical or liquid damage and mechanical and/or electrical failure for $4.99/month.
Couple things to keep in mind though. Even though the monthly insurance fee seems reasonable, but as with any insurance policy, there is a deductible. The deductible on this plan is anywhere from $50 – $125 depending on the model.
And the AT&T fine print is also that your replacement may be either a new or “remanufactured” device and “if the same model is not available, a similar make/model will be provided.” It may not be the best reassurance for white iPhone devotees, but still worth considering the plan. To be eligible for the program, you have 30 days from when you activate or upgrade your phone to sign up.
You never know what can happen when your iPhone meets your toddler. And with those curious hands, it may be worth the investment to protect your valuable device.
