• White and assorted bright colors of paint

• Paintbrushes

1. Gather the sticks and break them to make different lengths, then play with them until they're arranged in letter shapes. Paint the sticks white; you may need a couple of coats.

2. When the sticks are dry, paint a series of stripes down some in a different color. Leave enough room in between each to add more patterns. Let dry.

3. Decorate the sticks further with alternate stripes in a different color, or experiment with another pattern—stars, dots, flowers. The brighter, the better!

4. Glue the sticks together to form the letters. Wait until the glue has dried completely before you display them.
