I had a similar experience in the first trimester. I was bloated and gassy but unable to have regular bowel movement. It made for a miserable 3 months! In layman's terms I was told that it's because your digestive system slows down so that the baby has time to absorb the nutrients of the food you eat. I tried eating high fiber foods like certain cereals and prunes or raisins if you prefer. Also 100% juice like apple juice can be helpful or if you can get apple cider that may be better.
