Sometimes it's nice to get advice from experts with a lot of letter degrees behind their names, but other times, you just need to hear what another parent (with a M.O.M. behind her name) has done that has worked. You've got questions? These moms have answers.

10 year old son won't listen to me about a bad friend

1 answers
My 10 year old son is stubbornly clinging to a bad friend. This other boy lies, cheats and has gone so far as to tell lies about my eldest child resulting in him being threatened by his older brothers in school. I have tried everything I can think of to make my youngest son stay away from this person, but today I walked passed his school and again saw him playing with that same boy. I am at my wits ends! This last threat towards my eldest boy was the final straw. The cops were called in and the other boys were told to leave him alone, but if I can't get my youngest to stay away from the boy who caused all the trouble it will not stop. I have tried grounding him, taking away privileges and talking to him and the school about this but he just won't listen to me. How in the world can I get him to stay away from this kid before more trouble comes down on my home.

Unfortunately, there isn't really much you can do. Your kids will hang out with whoever they want to when they are away from you. At this point, just sitting down with your son and talking to him rationally about the trouble this boy is causing is the only thing you can do. He will either listen or he won't.
