Sometimes it's nice to get advice from experts with a lot of letter degrees behind their names, but other times, you just need to hear what another parent (with a M.O.M. behind her name) has done that has worked. You've got questions? These moms have answers.

hospital? We are thinking of using one but don't know what all we should ask a midwife/birthing center.

My sister used a midwife and loved it! She had a 10 lb 3 oz baby at home with no pain meds. I was amazed! She said her midwife helped her so much and also she was glad to be home the whole time. She was much more relaxed and was able to focus better.
I had a midwife for my first two pregnancies. I still had them both at the hospital but the midwife helped me instead of a dr. I didn't really notice a difference. The midwives were wonderful and if anything a little more personable than the drs. They just had a way of making you feel so important and so comfortable. I wish I had used a midwife for my third pregnancy but they didn't have one at the dr office that I went to.
This is the 3rd pregnancy that I've used a midwife and I like it a lot better than the one where I used a dr. I still deliver at a hospital due to insurance but they are nicer and seem to care more about what the mother wants and how she feels. I've always wanted to use a birthing center or have a home birth but I don't think there are even any birthing centers in my area. I would say give it a try. All the stories I've heard the women seem happier than the ones in the hospitals. I personally prefer midwives but it's all about what you are comfortable with. Good luck :)
My aunt just asked me during my baby shower last weekend if I was going to do a home birth and the thought actually never even crossed my mind! Then, I got a call from a good friend of mine who is a strong advocate for midwives and was discussing some of the benefits with me just today. So, I did some more research on it and found a really good article for those of you debating between a mid-wife or hospital, hopefully it's helpful for you!http://navixmarketplace.com/learn/midwives-and-birthing-centers/Even though I won't be going to a mid-wife this go around, who knows what round 2 will bring! :)
